Paying help, to our foreign guests
A few pieces of advice, hope you can find it useful.
General on bank transfers to Norwegian accounts
When entering a payment in your netbank (rent/deposit/etc), choose not to cover the recipient fees. I'm pretty sure all Norwegians think of bank fees as a cost of living. The receiving fee will show up elsewhere on the statement of account, not deducted on the sum you transfer.
We do likewise, for instance when refunding deposit.
If you however have transferred including our fees, we will try to notice and refund that part as well.
Local pay roads, around Beitostølen/Jotunheimen
Getting by car to Grønolslie, and to most public destinations in the area, is free. There are some private roads that require payment. You might find these remote roads useful for shortening otherwise long hiking trips, or just for a pass-through drive with great landscape and picnic.
Recently these private roads have started to use this payment solution: https://passpay.no/?lang=en
Just look for the word "PayPass" printed on a sign at or near masts etc with cameras, at the time you pass. Then use the above link, press "pay", enter car registration number and follow instructions. (no rush, I think you have 48 hours to avoid payment fees)
Parking etc, and other means of payment
There might still be a few toll roads and car parkings that offer credit card payment, but none asking for coins and notes I think. Probably a few that uses PayPal. Then there are some camera based parking around, like ParkPay and EasyPark.
Most of all, the smaller (and often interesting and remote) parkings uses Vipps. While the domestic popularity for this instant transfer method is great, it's pretty useless unless you have a Norwegian phone and national ID.
For Vipps-only parking I would not worry too much about not paying, at least not if less than a day, with a non-Norwegian registration plates.
But to be sure, bring a pencil and paper and leave a note with something like this inside the front window: "Vipps not available for me. Parking from [dd1 tt1] to [dd2 tt2]. Please send PayPal invoice or other payment details to [emailaddress]." It's polite, and you'll probably not hear back!
